Physical Region
Toronto is part of the Greater Toronto Area and the Canadian Shield. It is also part of the Eastern Woodlands. The shores used to be very muddy but now it has been covered over with roads and buildings. Because of the huge population, people covered the Don River with houses and this presents many environmental challenges such as pollution from air and water runoff from the streets that sends the oil and pollution into Lake Ontario.
Cultural Region
Eastern Woodland tribes all lived in similar ways. The people were divided into different classes, including a chief. Most of the Aboriginal people were deer-hunters or farmers. The tribes all lived near the water for transportation purposes. Now, Toronto is very diverse and there are immigrants who have brought their cultures and traditions such as the Corso Italia Festival, Afrofest, and the Festival of South Asia, making Toronto the most ethnically diverse city in Canada.
Human Region
The Wyandot people were the first group followed by the Iroquois to live in Toronto. The Wyandot people traditionally spoke the Wyandot language, an Iroquoian language. Then the French and English came and they brought their languages, French and English. Nowadays in Toronto, people in Toronto are diverse but most people speak English, French, or Chinese.
